Our curriculum includes a wide variety of activities to ensure your child’s brain and body are moving each and every day!
Our children learn about all the Jewish Holidays through songs, stories, cooking and art projects.
A special Kabbalat Shabbat Program (bringing in the Sabbath) is held each Friday morning and includes a story read by the Rabbi and a school-wide sing-a-long with the Cantor. The program concludes in their classrooms with a special “Shabbat Snack” and story read by the Shabbat Parent. Parents are also invited to come to our “Hanukkah Sing-A-Long,” Purim Parade, and Passover Seders.
Our children are involved in activities such as: art, block play, use of manipulative toys, science, sand and water play, gardening, cooking, music and creative movement, dramatic play and story time. A Thanksgiving feast, studying the transformation of caterpillars into butterflies and learning about the seasons are some of the units the children work on.
Each month our three and four year old children visit the South Orange Library and our own Oheb Shalom Library. The children have a special time with the Librarians at each location.
Every week our music teacher helps our children find joyous expression through music.
Several times each month our students have fun with our movement teacher. She presents our children with a wonderful mix of aerobic exercise, creative movement, gross motor development, age appropriate nutrition facts and sensory motor skills.
The PJ Library is a wonderful program for Jewish families with young children. Each month, every child enrolled in the program receives a free gift of an age-appropriate, Jewish content book or CD, along with a short parent resource guide and a monthly E-Newsletter. Mickey Fried Preschool has been a participant in the PJ Goes To School Program. Our teachers receive a PJ Library Book each month to use in the classroom and receive training on how to incorporate the Jewish values presented in the books in their curriculum. School trips are planned throughout the year. For the three-year-old classes, this means a walk to the library or the nearby duck pond to scout for nature's treasures. Our four-year-old classes visit places such as NJPAC, Overlook Hospital, and the Montclair Art Museum.
Separate from the curriculum we offer to our children enrolled in our regular morning program, we offer two additional programs that are an important part of our extended curriculum and provide our families with additional opportunities to participate in our nursery school.
Jewish Together is a FREE program run once a month at 12pm for children ages 2-5. This program is open to the community and focuses on a Jewish topic, often an upcoming holiday. Children and their caregivers eat lunch together, do an art project and/or cooking project and sing songs related to the theme.
