Talmud Study Series: Between the Eternal and the Human
Wednesday, November 11, 2020 • 24 Cheshvan 5781
8:00 PM - 9:30 PMBetween the Eternal and the Human: When Human Dignity and Ritual Practice are in Conflict
We will discuss three passages in the Talmud that seem to present conflicts between honor to God and honor to humans (sacrifice and murder; theft of ritual objects; and work, rest, and the liturgical calendar). We will explore the idea of when human dignity and needs receive priority over the practice of religion. Attendance at all three sessions is not required.
Rabbi Marcus Mordecai Schwartz, the dynamic director of the Beit Midrash of the Jewish Theological Seminary, will lead us in studying and discussing.
Wednesday evenings: October 21, 28; November 11, 2020, 8:00-9:30 p.m. via Zoom
